Genesis 2

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts.

Gen 2:2 By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Gen 2:3 Then God blessed the seventh (Sabbath) day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. (NASB)

A foreshadowing of our Rest to come. Our Rest is Jesus Christ.

Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it.

Heb 4:2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.

Heb 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, "AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Heb 4:4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS";

Heb 4:9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

Heb 4:10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.

Heb 4:11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. (NASB)

God rested on the seventh day from creating the world and the universe, He is no longer creating the world. It is complete. Jesus completed the work of redemption, He purchased us with His blood on the cross, and when He said, "It is finished." or in Greek, "Τετέλεσται"(Paid in full!), The work was over. He no longer has to work to save us and we, when we accept His gift of redemption and salvation; we don’t have to work for it. We can rest in Jesus for He is our Rest. In Hebrew the word for rest is Noah and also Sabbath.

Back to Genesis 2:3 for a closer look.

Gen 2:3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. (NASB)

Here we have the Hebrew letters Aleph and Tav, again not translated. Let’s insert the meanings of the letters and see what happens, and read it in the way the words are laid out in the Hebrew.

Gen 2:3 Blessed God את (Aleph and Tav, Beginning and End, Strength of the Cross, Power of the Covenant) day seven, sanctified it because He rested from all His work, which created by God and made.
